End of the 1980s was a Tumblr blog that initially posted about American Psycho, a novel by Bret Easton Ellis (BEE), gradually expanding to the rest of BEE's novels. It was active from April 2022 to February 2025. It was also, ummmm, ran by me.
This page is a "living archive" (more emphasis on living, than archive) for the blog. There are plenty of thoughts/ideas I had on BEE's repertoire that I believe I didn't express well enough, or even said at all. But for now, let's start with the postmortem...
You could consider End of the 1980s (or, EOT1980s) my first ever try at making a "real thing." I wasn't really doing much else, never feeling passionate about anything to warrant the same amount of energy I spent on the blog. Up to the point of the blog's creation, I was content being a lurker. What changed that is falling in love with American Psycho, as outlined in this blag.
Why did American Psycho do it for me? I sure asked that a lot, myself. The real reasons are too personal to share here. What I can say is that the driving forces were passion and curiosity. As I read through more of BEE's novels, I felt that the public discussion on American Psycho et al. wasn't enough! That rings true for any novel, though. This is just the one that I happened to like.
My first real post is pretty representative of the entire blog. It was, appropriately, about the chapter End of the 1980s.
Through running EOT1980s, I found the joy of making. Despite the constant fear that I was wasting time making a bunch of nothing, the enjoyment I got from doing would always prevail. If you were a follower of the blog or just happened upon one of my posts and enjoyed itβ thank you! Know that the appreciation meant so much to me. To any mutuals: much love.
