3 months have passed already? wow time sure flies at exactly the speed i expected it to pass....

this time around, i wanted to try out new things. also as it was july, i participated in artfight! it was my 2nd year but the 1st year i really participated. it was nice to make art i usually wouldn't, and the attacks i got back were all so lovely. it has an old school deviantart vibe in the best way possible

maybe you've seen it, maybe you haven't. this is based on "i depend on you" by redbugslove

if you didn't know, this caused some controversy thanks to twitter users that thought something as "effortless" as this didn't deserve the attention it got. there's a knowyourmeme article on it if you're interested

it's a bit weird to think back on this. it's probably the last ever "twitter drama" i had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand so it has a bit of nostalgic quality to it that's helped by its simple, compressed presentation

anyyyyways. i obviously was in the camp of liking it. doing a redraw of it but with patrick and evelyn from american psycho was pretty much a given considering patrick considers them to be blue and yellow

To Evelyn our relationship is yellow and blue, but to me it’s a gray place, most of it blacked out, bombed, footage from the film in my head is endless shots of stone and any language heard is utterly foreign...

i did the "pretend the digital canvas is a real canvas" thing with this, which really just means disabling undos and bucket fills. it also meant doing something like "underpainting," but making patrick's underpainting a little less solidified. this, plus the lack of an outline, gives him a fading look

i also wanted to give a feeling of something being painted over, something that you actually can't see in the full image because of the image compression. LOL. that, being the eyes

all in all.. redbugslove is a pretty prolific artist and i like his art and think it's worth checking out. some of my favorites:

not as much progress as last time but there's a row that's becoming more and more appealing to fill out, so maybe next log there might actually be a bingo what an exciting time!

some closing thoughts: i'm ending this quarter a bit low in terms of art. a lot of the time i think i was operating right on the edge of my limit, which can be interesting, but mostly it was exhausting and disappointing. i'm also feeling a bit directionless. with all of these in mind, maybe you know what i'm trying to get at....

i think it's time to finally hit the books and grind out the fundamentals. très terrible! but it will be worth it. i think
